I may disagree with the initial assumption that there's secretly a consensus that goes against their statements and sakana forced them anyways because I see no evidence for it, but I'll gladly admit that if that was the case you're be right and it would leave a bad taste in my mouth too.
For what it's worth I see it as a bit of a dumb PR move, nothing more. Maybe eventually you're proven right and one of the usual suspects (pippa?) cracks and spills the beans and actually they were forced. If that turns out to be the case, I'll admit I was wrong and shut the fuck up from here on out.
