Shipping can have downsides. Because there are autists and schizos and they will take things too far too seriously. Ideally what you want is something like what Lamy or Marine has, where they can flirt with lots of girls and make for good tee tee interactions and clippable moments. Lamy and Botan is a popular ship but people don't freak out when Lamy goes on dates with Ina for example.
The problem comes when people buy into a ship too hard, like Takamori or NoelFlare. Then it becomes a restriction, to the point where whenever Noel or Flare collabed with someone who wasn't the other, people would spam NTR or make jokes about "DID YOU ASK YOUR PARTNER IF THIS WAS OKAY?" a thousand times. And not just dump EOPs or SEAniggers, the JPs would do this shit too. Over the course of years it gets real old real fast. Other Vtubers, or even other Holos might feel uncomfortable collabing because they "don't want to intrude" mixed in with typical Japanese politeness autism, and the desire to not be murdered by a very real schizo.
So Noel and Flare along with Kiara and Mori made the decision to kind of move away from that shit so as to not be restricted by the bindings of a particular ship. This doesn't mean they hate each other, or they even like each other less. For God's sakes Noel has an entire apartment dedicated to Flare, filled with things that Flare got her or reminded her of Flare or I shit you not, one thing which has nothing to do with Flare but SHE WAS SIMPLY ON THE PHONE WITH FLARE WHEN SHE GOT IT. It's just wall to wall Flare merchandise/things like that and it even creeped out poor Rushia who isn't exactly known for her healthy attachments to begin with. They fuck on the regular, Noel has an entire apartment that's just a fucknest.
All it means is that they want to be able to interact with others without being spammed by schizos trying to be funny/schizos that think they should only collab with their partner and nobody else.
