The things that make loli/shota appealing just don't apply to real life children. You'll never find a real life child that looks like a lalafel or harvin. They have closer proportions to midgets than children. You'll also never find a lolibaba or oppai loli in real life. There's just so much diversity in the genre that isn't comparable to children at all.
I know a lot of lolicons are also pedophiles, and many of them are very vocal about their attraction to real children or have a reputation for getting caught stalking children at Japanese elementary schools and parks, but that's painting with a very broad brush to assume all lolicons are into that. You can often tell when you encounter them though, because they're obsessed with "realism" and religiously follow artists that trace their art from real children. Lolicon artists wouldn't get blacklisted for doing that if it was just an excuse for pedophilia.
It's not even out of shame, I don't care if someone is a pedophile since I'm not a kid and I don't have kids. I just think it's important to make clear lolicons are much more diverse in their tastes than just being attracted to cartoon children. The genre is developed enough to be pretty far removed from real life, as is most anime. It's not like Japanese girls in real life have red or pink or green or blonde hair, and yet nobody is going around claiming those characters are just an analogue for white people except fucking retards who have only watched like 2 anime in their lives.
