For newfriends and fa/tg/uys: this is a Chronicles of Darkness (CofD) homebrew being played by the fabulous ladies of Hololive English, running under the Hunter: the Vigil module. As most of the players are new to the world of tabletop RPGs, this campaign is being played as more of learning experience, with fun and entertainment the primary goals.

as TIARA
An explosively extroverted phoenix and savvy owner of the moderately popular fast food franchise, Kiara Fried Phoenix (KFP). Her experience in TTRPGs is limited to a small amount of DnD played as a child. Her character is Tiara, a nobly born foreigner with a talent for handguns and communicating with birbs, particularly her pet owl, Uhu.

as YUUL
A soft-spoken, sweet-natured priestess of the Deep Ones, also a talented artist whose character renditions has fueled the flood of Huntermyth fanart. A newbie in the realm of TTRPGs. Her character is Yuul B. Alwright, a sleep-deprived college grad student with a talent for academics, crafts, and vehicular homicide.
>Amelia Watson
as WATOTO
An animal-loving time traveler and detective with a rough-and-tumble approach to life. Yet another newcomer to the realm of TTRPGs. Her character is Watoto, a paranoid, conspiratorial dealer of herbal concoctions and drugs who holds his own with rough street charisma and his fists.
>Gawr Gura
as SCOUT
An infectiously amiable shark, long-time resident of the underwater kingdom of Atlantis. She is also new to TTRPGs, but don't let that fool you, her roleplay and improv performance so far has been nothing less than masterful. After going through multiple drafts and iterations, she has settled upon the party's final character: an illiterate, tough-as-nails country blacksmith named Scout, a melee and survival powerhouse.

Final edition of the breakdown sheets. All info was compiled to the best of my ability. Some damage values may be slightly inaccurate of out of date due to how damage functions in WoD. If damage was taken or healed it was marked. Bashing heals on its own, but if it isn't declared healed I didn't remove it. Common rolls are based on the most recent editions of the character sheets, which were updated in Session Three. If any anons detect errors, feel free to challenge me on them.

The cardinal rule of TTRPGs is that players will always find a way to subvert the GM’s expectations. I’ve been in a homebrew game where a mission lasted four times as long as the GM expected because we managed to derail things to the point where we ended up killing a kraken, causing a falseflag terrorist attack and had to sneak around security to leave the city, for example.

I get that. It's not a complaint either. WoD tries to market itself as more on the gritty horror side (or at least it did for a while), and Calli is really trying to go for spooky (I'd say she did pretty well during the tutorial sessions).

Whoever did the artwork here really captured the vibe the series was going for.

The difference in her tone was noticeable. When she brought up the possibility of someone dropping out she was super bummed. Hearing her so elated during the cooking stream was a joy. Our reaper has really grown and become part of the community in her first year. You hardly ever hear the SEA monkeys howling about her anymore.

That's the jank version based on her original super jank sheet. I'll stat up a version that isn't broken and makes more sense as a character in a bit. Would have done it sooner but there were no threads up for it. That Lash is all paper based an will totally fuck you up though, it's a very nasty attack. Paper shurikens aren't to be fucked with.

Idk why they keep doing mythbreakers in this time slot (although it's fine for me cause I'm eurofag). 3 or 4 of them are usually tired, only Kiara is always fine. If they move it 3-5 hours later it would be better for 4 of them and it will suck just for Kiara and for rest of us eurofag, but for other 4 it would be better.

I think that's because of behind the scenes things. During the previous session Mori spoke about how the mission they were doing were for them to get XP for bigger mission. IIRC she also said that 10th session would be mid season/ Now that someone wanted out, all of this went out the window too. Now Mori had to cram everything in 3 episodes.

The fact they have to play on company time is the biggest debuff to a RPG, because they gotta cram a whole session of setup-confrontation-conclusion in less than 3 hours, and that sounds like a pain in the ass for the GM without adding that they can only play whenever they can all collab, due to time zones. Granted, if this was more of a Monster of the Week thing it could work better, since at least there's isn't a huge overarching plot to keep track of.

I wish the Prisoner's Dilemna was a bit spicier than it ended up being.

When you design a Prisoner's Dilemna, it's supposed to be balanced like this:
1. Trust/Trust: 2nd best option for the individual, best option overall
2. Trust/Betray: Best option for the Betrayer, Worst option for the Trustee.
3. Betray/Betray: 2nd worst option for the individuals, worst option overall

What's really important is that choosing to Betray should never result in the worst possible outcome for the betrayer, even if both players choose Betray—BUT, both choosing Betray should be worse overall than either or both of them choosing Trust, and both choosing Trust should be unsatisfying for the individual, but best overall.

So the problem in this session was that the penalty for Betraying was too severe (none of the characters hate their allies enough to be willing to sacrifice them for even enormous amounts of money), AND that if they both choose Betray, then it offers no benefit over having chosen Trust.

So I think a more interesting matrix might have been something like this:

1. Trust/Trust: Both let go, consolation of $10,000 each
2. Trust/Betray: Betrayer is given $1Mil, Trustee taken hostage to be executed later
3. Betray/Betray: Both get nothing, maybe also kicked in the shins
Just a proposal, it would probably have to be iterated on a bit, or maybe the downsides tweaked to play more directly to the motivations of the individual players. These aren't easy to setup!

The plan to have two hour sessions once every two weeks just wasnt enough. Nothing gets done in two hours.

This is the biggest crutch to it. Calli said her older sessions would run 8-10 hours at a time, which is when the best TTRPGs come to life. It's no coincidence the best session has been the longest so far.

I really feel for Calli. This is a labor of love for her; if Kiara had not been deported, scheduling would've been WAY better with 2 in Japan and 3 in North America. Having to account for five people quite literally spread all over the world is such a bitch.

You didn't care for their scuffed TTRPG? You didn't see chemistry there? The problem is the big break from the 2 weeks for a session, the massive time zone gaps, and Mori always seeming to do her GMing at her most tired and that filler arc that should've been 1 part instead of split into 2. Just a lot of things going wrong stacked upon each other. I think most of the problems would have to fall on Mori since she is the one crafting the story and setting the time of when to do it. This would probably be better as a once a month session lasting 4 hours or longer to get one arc done each.

Well it's following the rules for a start. Attribute distribution is now the correct amounts, and generally more sensical as a character. Skill distribution has been tweaked to better reflect the concept. Merits have been totally changed to stick to the concept better, rather than the sheet that was statted out. The Amalgam form was added to reflect some of the fan art. Generally it's just more in line with the concept, and generally how someone might create a PC when they understand the nuts and bolts a bit better. The broad strokes are that you underwent a science experiment, willingly or not, and you came out broken and changed but with incredible powers. You rebelled and now the Conspiracy that made you is hunting you down, and they've got their own Deviants to send after you who are loyal to them. The more a Deviant shows off their overt powers the easier time a Conspiracy has tracking them down, but that might be what a Renegade wants. DtR is a game of revenge and an infinite web of connections between yourself, the Conspiracy, and everything else they've touched. Renegades want to burn it all down and there is always more to burn. It also deals with the isolation that comes from being unable to truly relate to humanity anymore, the horrors of your body twisting and warping against your will, and the costs of power.

There X/Y-splats are Origin and Clade, the former representing the broad circumstances that lead to their Divergence, the latter being the power source. The 5 Origins are the Autourgics who wanted 100% to go through whatever they went through to be Remade. Epimorphs agreed to be Remade but for a reason separate to the process itself, either to pursue a secondary goal or they were promised something in return that made it worth it. Exomorphs didn't want to go through it all all, often kidnapped, threatened, or worse. The Genotypals become Remade because of a factor of their ancestry, blood line curse, recessive genes from past experiments. Finally, Pathologicals were made by total happenstance, they stumbled into the whole thing. Each of these is mostly about how you relate to the world, and change some mechanics to reflect it.

As for the 5 Clades, you've got Cephalists (psychics), Chimerics (human/X hybrids), Coactives (infused with an energy of some kind), Invasives (cyborgs, magical or mechanical), and Mutants (mutants). Your Clade gives some unique mechanical benefits called Adaptations, but is largely about the aesthetics of your powers.

The powers cover a huge range of things. Energy manipulation, shrinking, flight, attacks of all sorts, illusions, memory theft, super human skills, immortality, metamorphosis, etc. A huge variety of stuff, with a lot of ways to customise them further. They're not free though and each power has to be attached to a Scar. These can be things like needing a charge up time, involuntary activation, the loss of limbs, self damage, emotional stunting, etc. The more powerful your ability the more severe the scar has to be, but you can basically mix and match freely. Amazing power system on top of a really great engine

Despite being one of the gen's older members and vastly more varied in her interests and talents, she lets herself be a doormat for her genmates at times. Things like Bane would let you give them weaknesses to iron, and Silence impairs communication and at 1 or 2 Mag that would be ideal. You could even do weird mushroom powers too. Kiara can go all in on the bird shit if she wanted, even go so far as having a bird with Variations itself. Ina could do an awful lot of stuff with tentacles, and could even require the book to do some of it. Or they could make basically anything. Basically any sort of corporeal supernatural is doable, expies for superheroes and anime characters, weird gothic horror characters. There is a lot of room to make stuff in DtR. It'd make for a really great campaign, except the girls would never learn it so it doesn't matter. DtR is actually simpler to run overall than any of the other supernatural splats too, it strips down a fair few things. The hardest bit really is just working out how Variations and Scars work, once that's down and you're playing it's pretty smooth sailing.

Amelia is very clearly the youngest. Her video game preferences reflect that, and her impatient, low-attention span personality is zoomer incarnate. Myth never really had a designated leader, which is honestly one of the factors in their success. Other gens have tried to push a foremost girl in some way, and it has always backfired. Oldest ads / art clearly showed some leanings toward Kiara or Calli being the face of the gen, but that was before Gura came along and smashed everyone with the power of cunny.

All of Myth's characters have some leader-like duties they've taken up on their own initiate:
-Calli. Comes off as more motherly to the girls and is the head of sound / music. The reason all song productions have been handled by her is due to her background
-Kiara. Organizes the big collabs, acts as a diplomat to the other branches after it came out that Calli can barely order a glass of water in Japanese.
-Gura. Star power. Always improves collabs and usually draws in the most views with her sheer magnetism.
-Ame. Comes up with new ideas like the smol models and VR world. Not business-minded or technically-oriented, but her ideas are usually processed by others and made real.
-Ina. Doesn't really share any leadership roles in the gen due to being a timid, introverted little chingchong who still lives with helicopter parents who use their Ring system to spy on her. She's the go-to girl for art assets.

Honest opinion, it crested with the banquet episode. They've avoided major scuffs since, but IRL interferences have been taking their toll on them. The DM running on fumes, Bang energy and probably some heroin shots doesn't help. If they had a good 5-8 hours to sit there and play it nice and slow, the quality and pacing would be phenomenally better. This really is an experiment for the girls, it's not expected if interest wanes or they wrap up earlier than planned. I just hope it doesn't discourage Calli from giving it another go at some point, she clearly enjoys TTRPG on a personal level.

If we were grading each session individually I'd have to agree. 3.5 hours is ideal for 1-on-1 TT sessions. Having all of them together demands a 4 hour session AT LEAST (which again, is why the banquet has been the best one). Think if they had an 8 hour stream through the hedge, they could've really had some real encounters in there. Goes to show IRL restrictions hurt the project more than effort or talent. They have the group for another Critical Role, they're just cucked hard by logistics.

I think Ina has more business savvy than she lets on in character, and is probably more involved in leadership on that side of things. It just happens much more backstage than the other things you listed so we don't really see it and the girls don't ever really talk about it. I'd bet money all or almost all the merch for all 5 of them is spearheaded by Ina.

I can believe it. Kronii and Sana were hired due to their connection with Ina, which shows some level of involvement with the company's inner working to some extent. Not to hate on either of those two, but I do wonder sometimes if better talent was missed due to bout of soft nepotism.

This episode was better than episode 5 pt2 but episode 5 pt1 was also better than pt2, episode 4 was better than both parts of episode 5 but episode 4 was also better than episode 3
Likewise Tiara and Yuul's sessions were both good Watoto's session was meh but Scout's session was kino
I feel like episode 5 made people sour on the TTRPG which sucks because it written to be a shitposty/low stakes silly episode but circumstances forcing it to be split between two parts made it be dragged out longer than intended, which was exacerbated by the delays so the TTRPG was left on low note for a really long time

When we brainstormed the circus episode, Calli said it would be much later in the series after the Hunters were more established. Then she proceeds to jump the Gura and have it be the second mission. That was a blunder on her part. In the end the circus arc wasn't BAD, but they were doing a good job of sticking to WoD's gritty horror. The circus arc went full Scooby Doo; I was half expecting the gang to run from the Hook and have him run across an oil-slick and do some looney tunes-tier slipping to make their escape.

Like, when Yuul realized what was happening the session was pretty much over right there but because the episode was split they sorta had to stall for time while waiting to get the McGuffin they came far
