I really enjoyed Nier Automata but I don't think the game is not pretentious kek, especially with the random references. It's a bit like Eva, it often uses philosophy just because it sounds cool. Still like the plot and characters though.
You absolutely have to check out Pathologic 2. It's honestly like a philosophy tract in a video game form. It uses a lot of big words and concepts, but it doesn't feel pretentious because of how well the game is executed as a whole.
Spiritfarer is also a good game about death, it didn't really hit me in the heart but it's fun and interesting enough. Def better than other "deep" indies out there.
