You don't even "black out" unless you (the trainer) get hit by pokemon enough times, then you DO get punished pretty bad by losing a good chunk of your items. I didn't think I would like that mechanic and feel it fit so well until I played the game. Crafting also works really well surprisingly (and I usually am not into crafting/survival games). You definitely have to manage your money cause you'll find yourself running out very often so you pretty much have to craft when you can. And this game legit feels COMPLETE. No bullshit, everything has an in-game event, everything is possible in solo (even evolution trades), and it's all done very cleverly. The exploration is top tier too. It feels great each time you get a mount because you get so many more places to explore, including every single past place you've already been to. The freedom you get to explore just feels amazing, especially when you're near end game. The more you progress, the more freedom you get to explore.
I really wanna emphasis that I absolutely hated and was extremely cynical towards the series with each new release after BW2. I went in completely expecting this to be hot garbage. I went in looking to hate on the game and actually came out fucking loving it. For once, the game felt like it was made by people who loved the series and not by corporate zombies.
