>>21203385I mean, it was always going to be this way, because Holobronies' favorite pastime (and I say this as someone who enjoys some Hologirls, but good lord is the fanbase retarded) has been lording over everyone else with "look at our mighty subcounts, and despair!" in a tautological rationalization why Hololive is the best ("because it has the most subs", and as everybody knows popularity means quality), and everyone else was just "jealous 2views haha", i.e. teamsports mentality is fun when you're on the winning team that's on top.
And now that other groups (of course primarily NijiEN males, because they're having the push of their first-mover advantage (being the first EN males from a major corpo, taking an untapped market), just like HoloENs first gen did for female EN vtubers in general) are catching up, they have to adjust their narrative. Where they could previously boast of their subcounts unopposed, they now have to add qualifiers ("oh it's just [weak Holo talent], it d-doesn't count!!" - and the people who apparently "don't count" get longer each time another Holo talent gets lapped) or shift to other metrics that are suddenly now more important than the ones where Hololive is losing, or abandon the whole conflict altogether they've fueled before and retreat into a mealy mouthed "w-who cares about n-numbers anyway, the most important thing is just that we have f-fun..." (sure, but it's quite telling that you say that NOW instead)
