Everything was a blur. When Ceres Fauna came back to her senses, she felt refreshed and revitalized, a slight warmth radiating from her core. A broken cuff dangled on one of her hands. No matter whatever happened yesterday, she had to have taken her fill of semen. She could feel it, very soon she would have collected all the life energy she needed, and then Spring would arrive.
She caught herself in the midst of a sneeze.
The sun was just peeking over the horizon. It was still a little chilly, testament that her mission was still incomplete. It was all coming back, bit by bit. Fauna glanced around, wondering where the hunter went. She hoped he didn’t leave already. She still needed just a little more.
Fauna looked down, and realized why it felt so cold. She was completely naked, her blue dress must have been flung somewhere across the room at the height of whatever happened last night. She had to go pick it up eventually, but for now slinking back under the sheets was so much more appealing an option.
Maybe another hour or two. The day was still young, and sleeping for a while longer wouldn’t hurt anybody.
That’s when she noticed the stain on her blanket, a deep red mark on her cherished pink sheets.
Then she saw more stains. Her hand was red, too.
Now that she thought about it, her legs felt kind of wet, too.
Fauna flung the blanket aside. Everything under the cover was red, all red. She found the hunter, at least. His shirt was in tatters, little more than a clump of rags draped over his shoulders.
“Haha, oh no,” Fauna said. It was a nervous laugh. “He’s not going to be happy about that.”
He wasn’t moving.
Taking a gulp, she peeled the cloth off his body, revealing a network of scratches, some ancient battle scars, and some that were far too fresh for comfort.
Then she saw the vicious claw mark that ran down his chest.
Her nails were dirty. Caked with grime and who knows what else.
Did… did I do that…?
If he was breathing, she couldn’t feel it with how faint it was. Finally, she realized what the feeling that consumed her yesterday was.
It wasn’t hunger.
It was a predator instinct.
Uh-oh.
She nudged him again, to no avail.
Oh god.
There had to be a way to fix this. Something to heal him. Come on Fauna, pull yourself together… apply yourself… apple… the golden apples!
She had to still have one somewhere.
