You could list a thousand superdeep obscure anime in your debut to display your amazing "weeb cred", but it won't help you be better in your new streaming job if you don't have the entertaining personality to carry a stream. And vice versa, you could have not watched much anime before, but if you are actually entertaining despite that, it's better for a streamer.
Vtubers, despite being "anime girls" themselves, aren't exactly "ani-tubers" (people whose main content IS "talking about anime"). Sure, there's some cultural overlap because most people are at least fandom-adjacent (people who watch anime girl streamers are also mostly people who already watched some traditional anime before), so how much or little they know about anime doesn't really matter in the grand scale of things. Also, most of the time their anime tastes don't really come up again all that much in regular streams in the long run, so there's no point in placing such a high importance on it
