It may be subject to change but the fact is by then, you've probably already committed to a college degree program if not internship / research / early job experience / artistic endeavors / mini start-up, you can't just start up a new artistic endeavor in the middle of being a college student for some normal wagie industry and/or having already started working in the industry
Whereas when you're young, you get the same amount of free time as every other kid and you can spend all of it on art, giving you thousands of hours and years of practice over your competitors when adults try to start getting into something artistic
