I think One Step at a Time is a decent song, the lyrics and melody and track are all fine
But it's something that sounds like an ED song, the track doesn't do anything ambitious, some of the synthy instruments feel kinda mediocre, and I end up feeling someone with IRyS's singing talent could do better; or honestly if you let someone with a cuter or comfier voice sing a song like that I'd probably enjoy it more
What affects whether lyrics sound fitting or awkward or not isn't just the lyric writing and delivery (which are usually very awkward and unnatural in IRyS's songs especially with engrish), but also things like the melody and track
I think the track in this new song is more ambitious, both futuristic and more emotionally powerful, the melody is matched to that, the lyrics are matched to the melody, and the delivery is matched to the lyrics; it all fits together better and doesn't sound as awkward as IRyS usually does
It also fits the style of IRyS's voice better imo, not that she can't sing cuter and more comfortable songs if she wanted, but she'd have to deliver them differently if she wanted to match the composition and IRyS not having much more than one style of lyric delivery is why I think a lot of people say she's a good singer but lacks "soul"
one of the reasons I think nami's Renai Circulation cover popped off is because of how faithfully her delivery matches the "cuteness" of KanaHana, which itself was a perfect fit to that song's composition
