Cats also have that strong wild animal instinct to not show weakness if they're sick, in pain etc. because weak animals tend to get targeted by bigger predators. A sick cat can lash out, hide in dark, hard-to-reach places and ultimately drop dead without the owner ever realizing that the cat was sick in the first place. If your human-loving, chill cat suddenly starts hissing, swatting and fleeing from you, a vet visit should be higher in your priorities than trying to make amends.
