Something like ET for the Atari was always awful and hasn't therefore aged badly since it was never good to begin with, while something like Super Mario still comes across as a landmark, both a tutorial on how to make / play a 2D platformer, and as a game that is well designed enough that you can still have fun with it today. Even with more generic and less innovative fare like this rougelike, it's still interesting to see how game design has changed between then and now.
