>>3650254>>3650689The term parasocial is overused on this board without really understanding it. It's a term to describe the dynamic between an audience and the person "onstage", so to speak. If you watch a streamer for a while or you follow an actor through interviews and social media, and you empathize with that person, then it is parasocial. I know all these things about Ame that she's said onstream, while at most she might be able to pick out my username in chat.
There's nothing inherently positive or negative about parasocial interactions. They happen all the time, with social media only further propagating it, but none of that invalidates that I do care about Ame. In fact, I think putting a name to it helps people understand how to draw healthy boundaries.
