>>38929800I have a much less severe primary immunodeficiency than IM, but I would point out that these conditions are less progressive than, say, cancer. With primary immunodeficiencies you don't have the condition get worse, the condition is that whatever immunoglobulin or immunoglobin or whatever is in the fucking basement for you, down to the worst cases that just have completely fucked white counts in general. You don't get sicker from the immunodeficiency, the immunodeficiency means that things that most people fight off in 72 hours with little lasting damage (or don't even realise they caught because it gets fought off so easily) will instead impact you for months and often do lasting damage to you. The immunodeficiency doesn't kill you, every common fucking illness you get exposed to does. Each time your body is left weaker for the next thing, think about the people you know who got gastro, then the flu, then glandular fever, then another flu in 6 months and just got fucked hard, and now think about someone for whom getting those over the span of several years would be enough to finish them off. That is what primary immunodeficiencies are like.
From what little I have heard about IM (not really interested in her content so mostly through osmosis) it sounds like she has a fucked white count, probably completely crashed in some serum immunoglobulins like IgG (I remember hearing she takes plasma transfusions so she can't be SIGADS, we give plasma not receive it) and probably has a fucked pancreas on top of that. Iirc her lungs are also fucked from pneumonia scarring and her gut is fucked from gastro infections. If she plays her cards right, she'll live for 30 more years and everyone will shit on "constantly dying" IM. If she plays her cards wrong, a flu followed by norovirus followed by a cold will kill her before the winter is out.
