Is Link a killer or only kills when needed?
The player actions should give form to the character. Those are RPG questions.
If he's a killer, he would get stronger killing each monster gaining experience from each battle. Better at attack aand defense.
That's the meaning of the XP points.
If he only kills when needed, he would get as many XP, he should be less apt at fighting because she hasn't practice on real life and death fights. Then he's low on XP and levels.
None of this matter in Zelda. He's always the same. It's not an RPG because the player actions doesn't get reflected on the build of the character.
