Christmas is the romantic date night holiday for the Japanese. Valentines doesn't have the same connotations it does in the West. Whereas Christmas in the West is more of a family affair.

Valentine’s Day in Japan still has romantic implications. It’s not exactly the same as it is in the west but you’re supposed to get chocolate from girls, either friendly or lovely choco.
Christmas is also a date for couples but that doesn’t mean Valentine’s is not.
