>>43247914basically yeah for a lot of these people they value what they're doing in part because it makes them -feel- special, they think they're the most righteous warriors on the planet.
what's interesting is that a few years ago people thought there might be a social contagion type factor spreading it but actually the percentage of teens identifying as trans has gone down the past few years - not up. if there was a kind of social fad/phase to it, it's already passing by actually. however, as it takes a few years for things to diffuse throughout society, there's kind of a years-lateness thing where random people who had nothing to do with and don't personally know any trans people are now fierce defenders of them once they've been officially inducted into the lgbtqia+omgbbqsauce alliance.
in like the mid 2010s when this was really-taking off as a low key fad amongst naive teens, the broader scene had not actually caught up yet but once shit like the gender neutral bathrooms type stuff started spreading on the news THEN it got broader traction. now, randos who had no real strong opinions on this a few years ago now have a stronger one - in part because mainstream conservatives, also years late to this whole thing, now unironically started focusing and talking about transgender shit because you wouldn't see fucking /pol/ shut up about it for years and years and years and finally it seeped out to become an official meta policy even amongst big mainstream republicans. so, once the right which used to not-really care much now is becoming very loudly opposed to it, that's making the left which also used to endorse it but not focus on it as much now also care more -because- the right is now getting loud about it and so people have a "they hate trannies and because I think they're wrong about everything then the correct stance is to protect trannies at all cost and rub it in their faces at every chance." that's what we are seeing now. guaranteed most of these people bitching loudly are doing it in a performative fashion, not because it affects them directly.
