I'm sure there is some minor possible cost to a company for keeping a channel up when it isn't making money. For example, tail risk of YT moderation (and cost to deal with that), and/or legal bullshit. I can understand why a small company wouldn't want to deal with that risk.
It just really sucks to see such a long, active history erased.
