Again it depends what Metrics you use. Giken, for example, tracks minutes watched so your rank is basically determined by your average viewers and your total time streaming. It basically tracks which streamers had the most eyes on them for the longest amount of time. Miko always ranks really high on this list because she is in the top tier of Hololive as far as average live viewers go and she always streams usually 90-120 hours a month (almost every day). She has a lot of eyes on her.

Both ways have their ups and downs but the way Giken does it is to filter out people like Ayame who stream once or twice a month, get 20k viewers, and then show up at the top of viewership ranks because of it. I like this method.

You like being retarded, that's what you like. You can filter out people like Ayame simply by setting a minimum number of streams over a given span of time to qualify for certain rankings. This type of ranking is absolutely worthless unless they have direct access to the YT account's analytics. I highly doubt that Cover would allow Pekora of all people to show her metrics to anyone other than paying customers for sponsorships.

You're probably thinking of a different metric here.
They're tracking minutes/hours watched LIVE which an estimation is technically accessible in both YT and TTV by polling and averaging their live viewers over time. While you wont get the best metric
that YT use for their algorithms (total minutes/hours watched) the tracked figure is a relatively good representation of it, especially on streamers where they do hours of content and VOD views are minimal.
Of course this method of tracking favors TTV streamers considering how YT removes suspected bot viewers from their count. which is probably why they constantly have twitch streamers on top of their charts. Just remove/reduce the twitch numbers mentally when reading their numbers.

Doesn't this method just favor people who do long streams? Say that during a given day chuuba A averages 18k viewers during a 1 hour stream while chuuba B averages 3k during a 12 hour endurance stream. Then that metric says B performed twice as well as A, which is obviously bullshit.

yes, because retaining 3k attention over 12 hours is more favorable to the platform, advertisers and, in effect, to the streamers in question due to how algorithms and monetisation are designed. And in terms of a streamer's popularity, being live for lengthy period of time contributes to marketing their online presence.
In the end, this sort of metrics is probably the most reliable we can use to track 'influence' without resorting to arbitrary limits such as random stream amount or hours streamed thresholds.

and yet she never showed up in these charts because:
1. she doesnt average that much to begin with. especially not agains the likes of top tier holos that can get 10k+ average over 3+ hours
2. even if she does 12+ hour streams in one day, doesnt mean that she can continue the same hours everyday. streaming less hours has the benefit of being relatively more sustainable to the holo that does them.

She did though. And even if she didn't show up in the top 20, she would still have been above a fair deal of much more popular holos that didn't stream as much. That never helped her grow, she remained bottom of the barrel all throughout. When people (and that includes potential sponsors) look at numbers they're primarily concerned with popularity, and for that average viewers, top viewership, archive views, total subscribers and subscriber growth are still much more telling metrics.

Well, holos that doesnt stream much or stream for hours usually have inflated average CCUs to begin with. Unless you can actually show Choco did better at these metrics than these 'more popular' holos, i dont think i can buy your point. And Choco used to be top holo of her gen, i think you're discrediting her a bit. her poor growth number is definitely an issuue due to her channel's issues with YT in the past.

Well I agree, but theres no concrete way to combine these metrics into one 'influence' figure. However, I still believe the 'total time watched' is arguably the most representative of that figure that we can non-abritrarily track to determine 'current' popularity or influence.

if they have more content to stream and entertain their viewers then ofc they are going to incline. Both in popularity, numbers, and the total time watched metrics.

The assumption that I made applies to holos that are extending their stream length or frequency with little to no interesting content such as SC reading. If for example Mel streams less by not reading SC, she's probably ends up with higher CCU average. or if lets say Choco now only streams ASMR every other week. her CCU would probably be closer to 10k based on how her ASMR streams normally perform.

Gura needs to go back to the variety of streams she had before (more singing, bathtub pizza, etc), because doing endless gaming tanks her views, even more so if it’s a game people don’t care about. Or her lazy ass can upload some stuff, but she said that’s hard to do because Cover has to approve every detail before it can be uploaded. I think better management would be nice too, but I guess they’re only there to tell her what she can’t do. Who knows, it’s a mess.

My guess is Gura completely goes back to lower views by the lack of variety and uploads, whether the fault of management or not.

Not exactly. Choco just doesn't stream a lot for some reason. She was inclining a few months before when she started playing MC with Polka and Flare. But her stream time became irregular again. I agree with this. Gura isn’t a good gamer to begin with, and for some people, it can be frustrating watching her play badly all the time. Most turn in for her commentary, but if the game is demanding of her attention, the commentary can take a backseat to the game. Which defeats the point. Not sure if she figured that out yet.

And they tend to set trends within the organization because numbers. Holos who play Apex are invisible to this thread and are probably looking at overall JP trends than internally. Oh, see that's more interesting. Let's see... man, some of those numbers are so disparate. There's even Niji's that have low single-digit number of streams (even just one streams in many cases). It really obfuscates who is really active and who isn't along the entire infographic.

That actually got me thinking. Gura would be much better off with a variety of content similar to Marine, in fact, that would be perfect for her. Lots of singing, talking, and other variety content with gaming thrown in every once in a while for variety sake. She is always compared to Pekora because of the BEEG NUMBAHS, but Marine should be her goal, not Pekora.

It's actually hard to play long games and keep an audience engaged while not being too distracted by the game the whole time. Really only Pekora and Miko have mastered it off the top of my head.

I watch Gura regularly and for real, her gaming ability if not rhythm is so abysmally low that I dont know why she picks some of the game she plays (RDR2 not learning deadeyes a very simple mechanics, brawling not even knowing how to block, etc). Pekora, Miko, and Gura all suck ass at videogames but Pekora and Miko have an uncanny ability to channel self deferential humor unto themselves and play into the bullying for entertainment sake. It doesn't hurt that both Peko and Miko are naturally funny and great at filling dead air. They manage to turn a playthrough that should be frustrating to watch into something hilarious because not only are you laughing at them, but they are playing into your laughter by hamming it up while also laughing at themselves. You are right, Pekora and Miko are masters of this and that is probably why the both of them primarily play games over other forms of content.

Gura can't do this, and before chumbuds crucify me I am not saying that Gura isn't entertaining, she is just a different kind of entertainer and is good at different things. Her singing is A-class and her talking streams where she is letting herself open up a bit and chilling with chat are some of the best streams hololive has. This is what she should be shooting for and not the constant gaming that Pekora and Miko do. She can't improvise content nearly as well as they can. Marine is the perfect comparison. Her content output should very much look exactly like Marine's does as far as variety goes.

That wasn’t my point though, and I’m the one who started with the idea that Gura needed variety. No one was saying for them to play no games, but rather to play to their strengths in general. Which can include certain games. It’s a complicated point that is totally missed if you take from it that all games = bad.
