English speaking vtubers before 2020 were getting like 8 viewers a stream. Hololive took off to infinity. Even so, indies still mostly sucked and died. Nijisanji WAS a golden ticket, someone like Pomu went from 200 viewers ccv to 3000 viewers ccv during the early days of nijisanji en. You can argue it's because it was just her and the other four girls but it was something decent beyond what she could have done herself. Then nina and the other whores struggled but got boosted on Luxiem's dick. Nijien was good for most of 2022. Iluna was okay early on but sucked progressively more as time went on. The problem is that Luxiem itself and its retarded little brother Noctyx have gone from getting 20,000 viewers per Vox and Mysta stream to getting like 5000 viewers as their average CCV so they have obviously reclined bigly, which means all the lesser guys have also reclined.

In addition I suspect that while Niji gained a huge audience of chinese yumejos like anon said, they likely lost the old audience of gachikoi/unicorns who liked the 'hololive lite' feeling but were driven out by twitter shipfags and the nijibois being literally twitch groomer bisexual pedos who didn't give a fuck about flirting on stream to 'own the incels', completely ruining the previous vibe.

Hololive EN has also reclined. In general when you compare indies like Miori celesta getting 600-800 viewers a stream and then small corpos like phase connect where Erina right now has 500-600 viewers and Pippa tops out around 7000 on her best streams, the Hololive/Nijisanji 'tickets' don't exist anymore, people who care about vtubing and anime and games have filtered outwards to smaller tubers who appeal to them individually while the casualfags and yumejos came, fucked the place up and left.

Nijisanji was a golden ticket but they ruined it and now it increasingly is more viable to be in a small corpo that takes a smaller cut or an indie.

In theory being corpo can be beneficial as it gives you a bigger automatic network of people for collabs, merch production, song production etc. It also gives an opportunity to grow as a streamer in ways beyond numbers, with a fresh persona giving a good reason to mix up old habits. She didn't default to geshin spam nearly as much for example, cutting it down to once a week on schedules with the variety allowing for her to show other strengths she possesses as a streamer.
And of course, NijiEN wasn't her first choice but that is always the case.

The actual answer is that while you can make more casually as an indie, for things that actually require BIG investment like a concert, mass produced merchandise, good 3D, song deals you need a company representing you.

She probably wagered with her existing fanbase she could make her way to the top of the pile and get her own zaion concert or whatever.

This is true but to be fair it's still a big opportunity, she could have networked within the company and leveraged the brand name to attract new viewers and grow her community.
Tho it seems like that wouldn't have worked for her in the first place since she didn't really fit in any of the social cliques or into NijiEN culture.
Like I am not trying to be overly political but Nijisanji retweets rainbow flag art, makes tweets about being allies, has openly gay members, has a history policing tone and speech of their audience and has them openly criticizing capitalism.
I don't think I need meds when I say they are on the lefty/woke end of the spectrum.
And Zaion's jokes just do not fit with that sort of group, they don't fit with the other NijiEN members or their audience or the image the company is trying to cultivate.
She might have fit better into a more "problematic" sort of corpo where the girls are more prone to being politically incorrect and saying controversial shit for shits and giggles and at worst just get a message by management and post a PR written apology on twitter and move on. This all would have been a nothingburger elsewhere.
Just let this be a learning opportunity for future vtubers:
If you join a corpo pay some attention to the do's and do not's of the company, their politics, their social norms and culture and their audience's.

It's a shame, but probably a deliberate effort to get rid of Zaion before she was able to establish any meaningful footing with her coworkers.

When it was just Lazulight and Obsydia I thought that NijiEN was the best EN branch/company. Ethyria was a cancer but I didn't realize just how big at the time and at the very beginning I thought Luxiem dudes were pretty funny if you could look past how fucking gay they were. But that's where the sharp decline began: the absolute fucking amount of obnoxious faggotry, drama, NPC pandering and all the mind-bogglingly retarded shit just drained all the fun out of it for me. NijiEN made me so disillusioned that I refuse to watch anything but JP of any company now.
