Here's a list of some advantages of each that I can think of.

Independent:
-More creative freedom/control
-More schedule/work flexibility
-No corpo taking a slice of your revenue (other than the video/streaming platform)
-Smaller barrier to entry (no auditions or anything)

Agency:
-Publicity boost
-More access to collabs
-Some costs covered for you
-Some labor done for you

Moonlighting to make maximum bank until you get caught and fired from your agency job, at which point you can just bring your agency fans to your indie channel.

Is that true? I don't think I can only think of one yab from an indie vtuber (and not even a 'normal' vtuber, but an AI vtuber), although that may be because I don't hear about them as much in general. It also seems like the consequences of a yab would be milder if you don't have an agency that could get mad at you for it.

On a side note, do indie vtubers ever "graduate" like how agency vtubers do?

the indie scenario is in constant state of yab, but normally the involved chuubas are so small no one notices

This is only true if you can draw and rig your own model. Otherwise you have to be able to front a decent amount of cash.

Biggest problem with agency vtubers to me is that they and their content can be straight up deleted forever for reasons sometimes out of their control
>company/branch closing down, either due to investors pulling out or controversy
>fired for whatever reason, justified or not
>fed up with some aspect of the management or company, maybe it's changing for the worse
With indies that won't really happen unless they have a supreme menhera moment, get bored of vtubing or join an agency (and even if so they still might not delete their content)

Unless you are planning to use vtubing as a stepping stone to a music career, being a sucessful indie is just straight up better than a succesful corpo. The good thing about corpos is that, if the company you join is competent, making it past the audition basically means that you will at least be moderately succesful at minimum and will get to skip the 1view-2view part of the indie grind. Once that initial boost is gone, corpos lose their advantage.
There are many reasons why a succesful corpo vtuber would want to switch to indie, while the only reason a big indie vtuber would join an agency is if it is a hands-off agency like vshojo who are just a glorified marketing company.

I'd lean towards corpo, especially if all you really care about is streaming. If the corpo is worth their salt, It'd probably take a load off of your hands to know that your growth, model, art, merch and other connections the corpo may be able to leverage will be taken care of while you focus on creating.

it’s really subjective, as a corpo you get some financial backing and you get some viewers with strategical marketing help, but you have to follow a set deontology (rules & duty) and you cannot do certain things, but as an indie you have no help and you have to pay for everything, but you have free will and you make as much money as you can.

Overall i would go indie, and possibly lean towards twitch streams while doing a little bit of youtube, but it depends on who you are and how much effort you want to put in; but most indies don’t make it.

if i was a women though i would no doubt about it join Idol-En.
