In the FGC world. Having eight fighters is kinda mediocre for sustained interest and longevity. Might have been good back then but not right now where having at least twelve is the bare minimum. But I guess since this is their first attempt. Who knows if they even bother to do DLCs but it would be nice if they did.

Unfortunately outside of Pekora and Miko there's no other Holomem who has a fighting game in their game rotation, and the former is nowhere to be seen and the latter is an assist. Mori and Ina played Strive like more than a year ago and it doesn't seem like they're interested in making it one of their staple games, and then you have some of the Stars like Oga and Flayon but then it's going to be weird when the only people playing your game are the members who aren't playable and possibly will never be.

The only way I can see them ever including Rushia outside of a cameo is as an assist because it makes no sense to make her a fully fledged fighter over any other Sankisei member. Coco makes sense in a way since the game has been in development since mid/late 2020 and she was most likely one of the first characters they worked on, and she also left under good terms so it's not as controversial as adding the girl who was fired.

The game kind has half of the slots for one gen. Gen 0 is almost completely represented having 2 fighters and 2 assists, while Sankisei, Holox, ID and EN have 0 members in the roster (and no Stars member if you give a fuck about that).

personally, if I was limited to 8 characters, I simply would've not put in a graduated member. Literally anyone would've made more sense and also would've made it more likely the members themselves would play it. Now it's just going to be awkward because whenever they play it, they'll constantly have the graduated member show up since there isn't many characters to play against. It's the same reason why the people who made the hololive FNF mod had to make another version of the game that replaced Aloe with Fubuki instead.

This couldn't be more wrong. Only casus think like that. All the western made indie fighting games that are still relevant to this day started with a small roster like this one. Skullgirls started with 9 characters. Them's fighting herds started with 6 characters. And I'm not even talking about nichier games like FoA or Punch Planet.
What matters for a fg's longevity is gameplay, content and features.

Out of the popular top 5 Holos only Suisei is in the roster and with no EN or ID, I don't understand what the developers were thinking.
With Coco in the game, there is a possibility that management will ban streaming of this game because of the risk that chink bot spam will return

Who cares about mainstream. The initial statement was about longevity in the FGC. Aka for people that actually play the game. And despite the only 8 playable characters, the game gathered a community that made people keep being interested in the game for 10 years. DLC are still releasing to this day, despite all of what the game went through with the Mike Z stuff. It's the biggest case of an indie fighting game keeping itself relevant throughout the years.

I don't think it'll get much traction. Fighting games are already an unpopular genre. Couple that with a small roster and stiff animations, it's not much of an eye catch. Casuals will wait for their oshi to be added, but fighting games really have to grab people at launch.

Starting roster makes no sense really. There is no theme or logic here. It isn't going by popularity in many cases but it also isn't going by anything else like pairs.
Botan and Watame, Korone and Okayu, Suisei and Miko and then Marine and Pekora would have been a good roster that also contains most of the really popular JP members.

The starter character selection is random and stupid and they shot themselves on the food adding Coco because now Holomem won't play it.
It's a passion project tho, so with no real logic, theme, order or reason behind the choices I'll just assume it's whoever the creator wanted to have in the game first.
Most of them are popular in the west or represent the company, besides Ayame who I guess the creator simply likes a lot.

Not bad really. Would also make sense to make this a 2 v 2 fighter where picking two characters who "match" creates synergy of some kind.

You severely underestimate how hard it is to make a fully-fledged character for a fighting game. 2 years for 8 characters is actually really good for an indie dev doing a free fangame when there are big devs that can barely do twice as much and ask you to pay 60 dollars. Also unless the entire team explodes I doubt the game won't have updates in the future.

I'm talking about how he made the concsious decision to exclude EN and ID of the roster. He will put every character of JP in before them.
And you did the math, 4 dlc characters per year and I doubt that the game will have more than 2 full years of support. We might end up with a final roster of 16 and yet none of them will be ID or EN
