Sure, but there needs to some potential there, a foundation of sorts. Nobody wants to see a 5'7 guy struggle to make it in the NBA and inevitably failing. A talented amateur singer like Gura could successfully go the idol route because of her excellent, if unrefined starting point.
All that being said, I do agree. It's why I enjoy listening to Fauna despite being the objectively worst singer in HoloEN.
