>>5455609That's a fair take then, and I wish you would have clarified in your criticisms that the reason you're so nitpicky is because you're a fan of this kind of music.
>not trying to objectively rate...My problem is specifically with number ratings because they remove all nuance from an opinion. A high number doesn't capture all your criticisms, and a low number doesn't explain why you might have liked certain parts, so I'll disagree with you there.
>just saying "I don't like it" ...Yeah, I was pretty off with my wording there, so I agree with that too. I didn't think it was worth explaining why I didn't like the song because people would usually dismiss that kind of post anyways, but since you called me out on it I'll be more specific.
First thing I noticed is how empty the low mids are (100-500), which wouldn't be a bad thing if gura's voice was lower. I was listening to his other music earlier and this is pretty typical of him. Could have turned up the pad there or used a deeper one, because that's literally what it's for. That's an arrangement issue, not a mix problem. I didn't like that the same build up/drop was reused 3 times, but I'm not sure if that's normal for this kind of music. Some variation, especially on the last one would have been cool. The choruses and rap verse are both 16 bars, and I agree that the chorus could have been longer. The combination of edm and traditional greek instruments is fucking weird to me, but that's because I don't really like edm. The rap verse is lyrically consistent with the rest of the song, but I think it came out of nowhere because it didn't reuse any of the main elements of the song. The bouzouki was my favorite part, wish he used that more throughout. For the more nitpicky stuff, there's a weird cut at 320 throughout the whole song, the stereo field feels kind of thin. If you solo the side channels it sounds like it's only reverb and backing vocals. The whole thing is lo passed at 18k and her voice is slightly quiet. The release on the sub sidechain comp is really long during the chorus. The lead takes up gura's space. That said, the guy did a good job. He's a jazz musician doing pop production, which is really hard and I have a lot of respect for that. I wouldn't say the song is objectively bad, even if it's not my thing. I like the bassline even if it doesn't fit very well, and I love the boudzouki bit at the beginning and end
even if it sounded like a kontakt library. I don't normally listen to this type of music, so my opinion doesn't matter, and I'm a music autist so it double doesn't matter. My problem with writing criticism like this is that people who don't really understand it, but feel the same way I do, will take it and run with it like it's the fucking bible. For some reason, nobody wants to form their own opinion.
