Your body often uses when you usually take in food for it's internal clock, so if you usually eat at 7AM, your body will usually wake up a bit before that. Same thing with naps, I usually take a nap around 2-3PM, so my body knows a few hours after lunch it's okay to relax a bit for some sleep.
You also have the right idea of trying for 20- don't try and nap for longer that 30 as you start to enter actual deep sleep and THAT will mess up your schedule.
