During Mel's return from hiatus stream last June, she was banned by Youtube twice in a mere 15 minutes; each time forcing her to launch a new stream frame. While this was going on, Marine who was watching the stream, posted a tweet discussing the situation and remarking 'so this is the power of a Banpaia'. The tweet ignited like wildfire as other Holomembers laughed then cringed at the pun. Folks in the stream chat started picking up on it and saying the pun nickname in chat and Mel finally noticed and was like 'OMG, no no no; don't give me such a weird nickname lol Where did you hear that, who came up with it!?'. Chat outted Marine who fessed up in chat and Mel jokingly reprimanded Marine for teaching the fans such weird and cringey humor.
The ensuing weeks of Youtube shadowbanning Mel's streams and forcing her to literally place a censor bar over her cleavage ensured that the Banpire/Banpaia nickname stuck.
