Hello fellow Novelites,
some anons have expressed to wanting to participate in a book club. Looking at the first poll about where we would congregate and also some very good arguments from one anon, I would suggest we use the anchorpost system on our monthly exchanges (first of each month, when we flip the chapter and keep it going for up to a week, since threads are going rather fast right now).
http://poal.me/14tnk4Here is the poll for our first possible read. Since another anon pointed out that it would be a lot better to work with multiple votes, treat this one as a preliminary vote.
I urge you to also put forth any books or short stories you might want to read, as I will be putting up a new poll tomorrow, when the friends in other timezones have given their opinions. That one will have multiple votes and will be final.
Another anon had suggested to have the book club be a two-parter. One short story or light reading text and one actual book, so people can choose what they feel more comfortable with, while more avid readers can just do both.
We can try this one at first, picking the highest voted book and short story/text.
In addition to the books/short stories/texts in the poll, we have the following suggestions which will be added in tomorrows poll:
>Foundation (while not the first chronologically, it was the first book released) - Isaac Asimov>The Odyssey - Homer>The Fellowship of the Ring - John Ronald Reuel Tolkien>Jonathan Livingston Seagull - Richard Bach>God's Debris: A Thought Experiment - Scott Adams>Roadside Picnic - Arkady Strugatsky and Boris Strugatsky>The Wizard Knight - Gene Wolfe>What Moves the Dead - T. Kingfisher>The Burnout Society - Byung-Chul HanPlease treat this post as an anchor and reply with your recommendations, criticisms or questions.
