>>62635349I'm in game dev and I'm glad people have an outlet for this. Cover's basically acting as a hands-off publishing label, which in the current era is pretty strong. Even if they don't take a direct cut, they'll get dividends in progress for the "cultural victory".
There's pretty much no competition, too. Nijisanji actively squashes most fan game projects, and smaller corpos aren't going to have the exposure that the big two can provide, especially in the West. Indies and solo devs are a non-starter
don't lie to me, you've never opened /log/ or a /vt/ game dev thread before today. For every HoloCure, there's a billion Calliope Mori's Underworld Tour 2022s or Kiara Catch The Chickens.
The debut title for the label looks like a 2008 Flash Game, but it's being made by one guy, so whatever.
My only real complaint is that it's required you put the game on Steam, which means it has to be a game that can go on Steam in the first place. If you're developing a tabletop RPG or a board game, you can't put those on Steam as standalone products, and I'm pretty sure Cover's not gonna let you put a Tabletop Sim Workshop Mod on Steam under their label.
