Introduction:
Harney and Sons "Hot Cinnamon Spice", a cinnamon-flavored black tea recommended by my oshi Gawr Gura. A flavored Chinese black tea blend with orange peel, cinnamon bark, and sweet cloves.
Impressions:
Aroma of the dry tea bags: Very pleasant, pronounced cinnamon. Reminds me of cinnamon gum candy. Judging by the aroma of the dry leaves, I anticipate a strong cinnamon brew.
Brewing method:
Filtered water, boiled, tea bag into Mumei mug (perfect size for tea). Steeped exactly 5 minutes, as per instructions from the company. I usually buy loose leaf, but I went with tea bags to sample this blend before investing in a full pound.
Liquor:
Aroma: Pleasant mild cinnamon, not overwhelming.
Flavor: Surprisingly sweet, with a full-bodied cinnamon flavor. I didn't find it too strong, but it might be more pronounced in a loose-leaf brew method. Notes of orange citrus. Not bitter at all. No sugar or milk needed for this one.
Body/mouthfeel: Smooth, a touch thicker than my typical black tea. Slightly coats the mouth.
Aftertaste: Pleasant lingering traces of cinnamon.
Conclusion: An extremely pleasant tea. Appealing from both an aroma and flavor perspective. A tasteful choice, as expected from Gura. Be sure to use nice hot water for a good extraction of the cinnamon flavor. Pour immediately after boiling.
Rating: 8.5/10. I'll be buying a loose-leaf order when I finish the box of bags.
