>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>TL;DR: Pedantry for the sake of pedantry about the details of Pekoras superchat total, ignore this if you hate math and hololive history lessons>>70278929>Pekora, is the most SC vtuber in the world nowSo I love Pekora but as somebody who lived through the events that heralded the end of her SC reading segment(I fucking miss my 'aripeko's to this day, man...), this is a prime example of being misled by incomplete data.
Let me demonstrate. I will use Playboards, which while buggy in terms of finer details, is good enough to demonstrate my overall point:
>Pekoras Lifetime SC: $2,859,141 (#3)>Pekoras 2021 SC Total: $908,973 (#4)>Pekoras 2022 SC Total: $477,769 (#10)>Pekoras 2023 SC Total: $311,026 (#7)Now, as I said, early 2021 is when Pekora, because of an issue with management that caused her to break down crying on stream, ended up pushing her to no longer do SC readings(in her breakdown, she even mentioned doing this for her fans sake, though I won't dig further into that event out of respect for her). And it's common knowledge that SC readings are a crucial means of incentivizing SCs.
So running some basic numbers
>(2021)$311,026+(2022)$477,769+(2023)$908,973=$1,697,768For the sake of completeness, I will go ahead and grab her total revenue for the months of January and February 2024 as well, which are as follow:
>Pekoras 2024 Jan SC Total: $33,287 >Pekoras 2024 Feb SC Total: $7,153(*FROMsoft SC Debuff qualifier, for the sake of transparency)>(2021-2023)$1,697,768+(Jan 2024)$33,287+(Feb 2024)$7,153=$1,738,208 Sorry for all the build up, but it was necessary in order to properly demonstrate my point. Let's now go back to Pekoras total SC earnings: $2,859,141
Now this bit is a little iffy, but to the best of my memory, Pekora unlocked monetization for her channel in September of 2019. Playboard shenaniganry means that while it doesn't have the play-by-play for her SC until the start of 2021 on the dot, it did still log the overall revenue earned. Which means we can figure out how much she earned in the 15 month period of time between her being monetized to the end of 2020 by subtracting the revenue after that point from the total revenue:
>(Lifetime)$2,859,141-(2021-Now)$1,738,208=$1,120,933And so, we get the revenue total of pre-2021 period as
>(Sep 2019-Jan 2020)$1,120,933So, what's the point of all of this? Clearly, $1,738,208 > $1,120,933. But the final piece of the puzzle is time.
As I said before, that $1,120,933 represents a 15-month period. An average of $74,728 a month.
Meanwhile, that $1,738,208 represents a 38-month period. An average of $45,742 a month.
And even that figure should bear in mind that the absolute brunt of the post 2021 income did include a period of time leading up to Pekoras clash with management, where she still did he superchat readings, as well as the phasing out period early on in the year. It was a somewhat front-loaded year.
This next bit is for anybody insightful enough to notice the oddity of her going up in rank from 2022 to 2023 despite making less money; there is a reason for that. First of all, it's of course important to note that 2023 was the first full year after Lamy dropped GFE cold turkey(she actually did so mid 2022, but because she still did it early on during that year, her front-loaded revenue carried her to to rank #3 of 2022 anyway, whereas her 2023 total had no such buffer). And then there is the more obvious fact that both Coco and Rushia were no longer present, and thus "freed up" the top slots they once had a lock on. There are other perturbations that existed, of course, but fundamentally, the shift in rank from 2022 to 2023 was less to do with the people at the top in 2023, and more to do with the lack of the people who were at the top in 2022.
Pekoras long, winding story from being one of the superchat queens to "merely" a high level contender is a long, complicated, and emotional story
But stories are meant to be remembered and passed on for their own sake
Never forget the day the bunny cried
