Unironically, you will save money in the long run.
Pet insurance is for poor people and I mean that in the nicest way I can manage.
People who are middle-class and higher can manage without it most of the time since vet costs are generally $300 a year outside of emergencies, but poor people don't do regular vet visits and thus increase the chance of having their pet be seriously ill or injured somehow, causing costs to skyrocket for them (think $1500 minimum) that could be covered by pet insurance if they had it.
The amount of times I had to give back an injured or sick pet because the owner decided to "check somewhere else" after hearing costs makes me sick, since they don't even want to pay for putting the pet down.
