Spend exactly 2 days in London for the Natural History Museum and the National Art Gallery respectively. If you have time then the Tower of London was good from what I remember. Then go visit the shire, lovely place just to walk around, and it's not a dirty city. I recommend Hampton Court Palace because of its proximity to London and the history connected to the place. Going to a spring/summer fete or local farmers event was always fun when I was a kid, but that will depend on where you are and how the timings work.
And of course, many old churches and their stained glass windows are still in use, so go visit some, they were so beautiful that the English church didn't want to demolish them.
