>>72682392>EN wasn't a black swan eventIn terms of scale, I would say that it absolutely was.
The reason I say that is that in 2020, we were comparing to the last, biggest culmination of Vtuber hype: Gokisei, who debuted with the benefit of all the last few months of western Vtuber hype and JP audience expansion since COVID. Post-Scatman, Post-DOOG, post-Miko saying Nigger, etc. It was the peak at the time.
And it showed, because girls like Botan were the FIRST EVER to hit 100k subs on the day of debut.
But at the same time, this meant that the culmination of all the previous Vtuber hype that had built was only 100k people. A bit more than that over the following month, so the growth was there, but it was tame by modern standards.
Then Myth came out. And they became the first ever Hololive gen for every single person in it to hit a million subs, and in about six month's worth, something that's genuinely unsurpassed in the modern Vtubing world even now.
The scale of Myth compared to everything else that had happened or has happened since is something you can only describe as "black swan."
