It doesn’t actually correlate with their business success. Paying people lots does not equate to long-term profitability. Likewise, you cannot have a successful company if the inmates run the asylum.
The thing about the Yagoo brand is that it creates a charming paternal feel good figure that people can support. Now it’s cool because it seems largely genuine but that means people don’t really think of him as the legitimately shrewd businessman he is.
Case in point, it’s easier to take care of your talent by being extremely selective of who you accept and being very careful in how you expend company resources with a larger stratagem. It’s not unchecked altruism here.
By all accounts, Cover is absolutely quite a stressful and difficult place to work. However, they keep it reasonable and give appropriate compensation for the high standards they will demand of you.
Hence even people who voluntarily leave the company don’t really flame it as a toxic work environment, just a hard one.
Simply put, Cover isn’t a successful company just because Yagoo is a good person. Cover is a successful company because Tanigo is a good businessman and can balance personal and corporate interests.
The problem with AnyColor is that it has been neither competently ruthless (a la major entertainment companies) nor benevolent and generous (a la PRISM Project).
So you’ve got a company that the talent, fans, and shareholders will all be mad at. And that is the actual failure: one not just evil but also incompetent.
