Here goes my schizo theory.
Every vtuber vod is pre-recorded while live. To keep it as realistic as possible they sometimes turn the audio down and respond to comments or messages live, and then continue with the clip.
Think of it, has your oshi ever said she loves (you) specifically, no. Never. Thats because they are programmed.

Gura died at some point last year, if not earlier. She's being skinwalked by a new hire using an AI-enhanced voice filter. Or several new hires, at this point; they aren't being informed of the role they're expected to play until they're already on board and under a massive pile of NDAs, and so they're usually only able to deal with the horribly unethical thing they're doing for one or two streams before they quit. The long hiatuses are required to find new candidates who both sound close enough to Gura for the voice filter to make it convincing, and who are willing to do even one stream without quitting on the spot.

Even if she was a straight-up awful employee who caused continuous problems and deserved to be fired, Niji's method of doing seemed tailor-made for making them look like insane villians.
