>>75498403The downside to a corpo that has been discussed in some capacity on this board is the standardization. There are standards and routine protocols to adhere to in a corporate setting, and this will apply to most everything. This means that when constructing a wave of new talents, there cannot be too much of a standout in any one department without appropriate intentional contrast in the other members. Corpos have rules and processes, perms and whatnot. There is still a process of submitting things in writing, waiting for approval, and other such bureaucratization. Things like theme, timeline of development, and the budget are all considered in the conceptualization and drafting phase.
Indies do not have to contend with these barriers as they represent themselves, and only themselves. With no bigger corpo titan looming over their shoulder to dictate how things should be, indies have only their own mind and wallet as limits to the bells and whistles they can tack onto their models.
To add, having a good model with good rigging and everything means jack diddly shit if the design is not good and the personality behind it is not entertaining and creative enough to use it well. Likewise, a modernized and fancy model isn’t necessary for a vtuber to be entertaining to their audience. HoloJP’s older models had quirks to their age that were charming at the time, and it helped lend appeal back then. Not to say it’s a good or bad thing, just that it does influence perception in this way.
