You don't need to be friends or even have similar interests to have chemistry.

You just need one or both talents to be entertaining.

Watch a well established early vtuber from either company. Someone like Fubuki or Toya can collab with basically anyone for the first time and make it work.

HololiveEN picks up newbies and then those newbies never put in the effort to improve.

It's easier when most of NijiEN knew each other long beforehand. Pomu and Elira in particular were inseparable before NijiEN. When you throw five strangers into a room things are gonna be awkward.

I think it might just be the differences between company culture. Selen and Finana didn't know Petra before any of this but they bounce so well together. No one knew Hada and yet Elira+Finana has gotten close enough to her to have discord calls frequently off-stream. Cover started to change their direction for HoloEN after NijiEN debuted, encouraging more impromptu collabs and stuff but you can't fake chemistry. It's still so early to tell for HoloCouncil, give them a week or two.

Not doing collabs to early;
Good debut sizes (well, maybe a couple minutes longer would be even better);
Adding a small clip before debut, so Susan won't bash them too hard;
And probably many other things.

HoloEN has an issue. High spec talent, that crumble and even lose their normal viewers when they collab, which is a buff for every other type of streamer and content creator under the sun.

Also, collab this, chemistry that. Who the fuck cares. Vtuber is all about solo stream and the optimal rate of collab is around once every one or two months and they shouldn't collab with the same people too often.
I've been watching vtuber for a long time, both JP and EN, I'll admit that there are vtubers that can get big numbers in collab but suck ass when doing solo stream because they themselves are boring as shit. Those people aren't successful, all their viewers are tourists, they don't get superchat. They're just a bunch of failures.

Well, when you've built your company on a certain image you're gonna have to at least try and hold it up. I agree that the best of the best usually specialize in solo streams but if they didn't need collabs at all then why join a group in the first place?

I don't know how to phrase this so I'll just say it straight: What's the point of collabs within your group? From the management's side at least.

Like, collabs OUTSIDE of the group make sense, those are all about exposure and putting you out there for a new audience. But what does the company really gain with collabs among the members? I'm not trying to say they should outlaw them, since they're great for the vtubers themselves, but I'm just trying to rationalize it for the managers themselves.

NTA but that's not the point anon. Too much collabs are bad for both party participate in it. The first thing you want being a streamer is to have a solid core audience and to have that you'll need to interact more with your audience. You cant do that much if you collab too much and your whole selfbrand will be glued together with whoever that other person or group is (not company group) and that's the last thing you want.
