I understand that part of the charm of the medium is the freedom to make your character look however you like, but I feel like there's instances where it just doesn't work well. If you've got a super deep chainsmoker voice maybe don't bother going for a cutesy loli character, or conversely, going for a confident femme fatale mommy while having a squeaky toy/chipmunk voice and stuttering around. I'm sure the contrast can be funny on occasion, gap moe and all that, so I won't say it can't work -sometimes-, but as a general rule I'd say work with what you have.
This extends to forcing a character voice, imo in 99% of cases it's an improvement when they eventually return to their natural voice rather tahn maintain a fake pitch for hours.
Much less relevant but still worth mentioning: you can pick whatever skin tone you like for your character, but if you plan on doing handcams and whatnot in the future it might be prudent to just have the model reflect you IRL. I can promise you that at the very least /choc/ won't mind.
