Most of the admiration for the german army in the 2nd world war and some of the myths are based on the hugely popular memoires of some prominent german generals published after the war. Their memoires have been proven to be bad historical sources to get actual information on what had happened when confronted with other sources. The memoires only function as ego documents providing insights in how some generals felt about things after the war. Still these memoires sparked a lot of publications in the form of books, documentaries, etc that don't use any other sources to verify their claims and focus on dramatizing certain aspects.
