I basically never post anything, but this is a beautiful thread.
I'm in my early twenties, very early started working on a strategy/philosphy of
life which I think have contributed to having a good life thus far. I have a
great job and career which I love and make good money. I am mostly free from
worries. Can't relate to your relationship stuff though since I never had a
girlfriend, or that many regular friends for that matter, but it could be
worse. I think the world is beautiful (pic related) and although having someone
to share it with would be wonderful I'm alright for now.
One advice I would give is to have a fictional role model, and ask yourself how
this person would act. It's like the advice "don't ask 'what should I do?', ask
'who do I want to be?'", except it's easier to visualize with another person
leading the way. I often think about Emerson, Thoreau and Marcus Aurelius in
this way. Emersons essay "self-reliance" is amazing and I think you all should
read it (I have it on audio), it's not hard to understand but beautifully
stated.
Another good book which is more instructive is A Guide To The Good Life by Irvine.
Also if the "create your own meaning" stuff doesn't vibe with you (doesn't with
me) but you don't like religion check out Spinoza, which as far as I understand
has similar views to Emerson and Thoreau.
