I also don't think manjaro should be classified as "just works" and honestly at this point it's better to use the archinstall. I have had manjaro updates breaking my nvidia drivers on multiple occasions, and since at the time I was a noob it was a miracle that I didn't just give up linux because of that. It took me multiple weeks to find the cause, and in the meantime I think I just fixed those problems by reinstalling manjaro. Also, manjaro uses its own package manager on top of pacman and that has caused me many problems.
I also dislike Ubuntu, which I have used inside VMs a couple of times, and I don't think it makes gaming work out of the box, except for steam games since steam already comes with proton iirc, but that applies to any distro.
