I was in a third world country last month, I've met people who live on 30 cents a day and had one pair of clothing they've kept for years. They just ate mainly rice with a bunch of vegetables on the side for every meal. I would say even the poorest people in the US are better off than the lower-tier-rich in the third world countries.
I can't help but think I would not stand a chance if I were born into those conditions as it would be nearly impossible to rise up and even earn a dollar a day. Now that's 'against the odds', earning a dollar a day in the third world.
No one in the first world 'has it hard'. No one.
