>>7665245My grandpa has been sick for the last few years, he got a leg amputated last month, but it didn't improve anything. He's now on death's door.
My family unfortunately left the country when I was still a kid so I never really bonded with him, today my grandma called us so that he could see and hear us one last time, he cried once he heard my voice for the first time in years. He was never an emotional man, this was a huge blow for everyone in the room with him. I can't remember seeing my mum ever cry like this either.
She wants to fly over to be there in his final moments, or at the very least attend his funeral, but she's afraid of being locked in the country because of COVID concerns.
I personally didn't expect to be this affected by his death because, as I said, I grew up far from him, but seeing him put his hands over his eyes to wipe away the tears, despite his limited mobility because of his condition, hit me like a truck.
