>>6818342I had some dependency loops and missing archives when messing with some deep Xorg libraries, and the overall attention to detail seemed to be a bit less; I was unable to configure some other Xorg libraries for pango as they only supported Xquartz mode. Other than that, I do prefer how macports & pkgsrc handle things, I used pkgin on Solaris for a bit and it was pretty nice. I may try either one again next time I get a clean install.
>>6818344Homebrew & other package managers in general don't really conflict with other ways of installing software; I use the app store, independant .apps, automake, and homebrew altogether and have never run into any problems. If you want something easy, definitely go with homebrew. You can set it up in one script and probably install all that stuff you need. It's just like any linux package manager, just with emojis.
