And yeah, I've thought about seeing a therapist, and while part of me feels like it might help, another part of me feels like talking to one isn't going to change my mind about anything. If she really makes you feel the way you say she does, then hold on to that. Find a way to make it work. That's what I would do. As far as your families not liking each other goes, I wouldn't worry about that. My family and my ex's family never liked each other either, and it never mattered to me. How much longer until you earn your PhD?
