The birth of man fomented the existence of good and evil. With the invention of fire came disparity, power and control, and with these came the first laws. Law and Order gave us the power to measure evil. To lay down judgement on those we deemed guilty. But with Law came error, corruption and the failure of Human perception. Just as often those who are beheaded in the name of self-righteousness were nothing more than Lambs to slaughter for the masses. The powerful control what we hear, the stories we tell our children, who is innocent, and who is guilty. Many of us presume these stories are true, that justice was served, that those that are found guilty ARE guilty. But is that really true? In civilized society the accused enjoy the right to counsel. We have learned that even the most vile acts must be defended. Not because they are good, but because we are not. Humanity will always disappoint; humanity will always fail to live up to expectations. We are blinded by our ignorance, by our gut. Our brains look for obvious connections, clear patterns in the wild random shadows created by our fires, as we huddle near them against the cold unfeeling night. Nuance, and the truth elude us. Good, Evil these ideas live our Hearts and not in our heads. This is why everyone for, every affront is entitled to defense. Someone unafraid to look darkness in the eye and shed light on the truth. Even if that truth is repellent. Even the Devil deserves an advocate.
