We just haven't had progress in the way they thought we would; Jetpacks were not viable, hoverboards would not work in a movie way, we don't have commercial trips to the moon (why would we all want to go anyway?), and we haven't even set foot on Mars. A computer still can't really pass the Turing test, nor do we have anything close to a humanoid robot that thinks on its own.
Its fun to watch a movie like Blade Runner now, seeing what they got wrong and right. He has a flying car, but has to go up to a payphone to call someone (though it is a "video" phone.)
This might not be my "favorite", but I waited 23 years for it. What took them so long?
