The colors weren't really an issue with the first work, more the subject matter. Vaporwave is generally supposed to have a more laid back, feel-good vibe to it. A lot of people get that from nostalgia, hence the use of older anime in some works. Yume Nikki and its spinoffs, not so much (I mean I guess if it does that for you, that's cool; I feel like most people don't have the same response to it though?). What you've got here evokes more of a sense of anxiety or dread--at least to me, idk if I'm the only one here--due to the black+yellow color combination and gas mask imagery. It feels a little like what some of the other "pseudo-vape" wallpapers tend to do, where they throw the genre's subtle satire out the window and instead plaster the paper with trite, depressing quotes and sad emoticons. It gets too in-your-face about what's supposed to be a very subtle undercurrent of the work.
tl;dr It still needs some work, but you're on the right track. Keep it up!
>>6700941I like what you're going for here. Something seems not quite right about it, but I can't quite put my finger on what. I think it might be some of the screens? A few of them are upbeat, optimistic, and/or nostalgic, which is good; then there's a few that are too modern (like the Regular Show one) or dark (Evangelion). I'd say try replacing those two screens with something that fits the theme a little better.
