The thing is only 8 of those fatal crashes were because of mechanical failure, 15 of those fatal crashes were from pilot error or miscalculation during vertical landing attempts on land and at sea.
If you are deployed in an active combat zone, you are much more likely to be shot or blown up by an IED than die in a aircraft crash caused by mechanical failure.
